Hirsch is the author of DepPrep, an electronic deposition preparation program (in slide format), originally marketed by CaseSoft, and then by LexisNexis. Hirsch has numerous other legal publications, and has spoken across the country at seminars and meetings.
Hirsch has served on various committees for the Iowa State Bar Association and the Supreme Court of Iowa. He is a former President of the Des Moines County Bar Association and the Des Moines County Law Library Association. He is a member of the Polk County Bar Association, Iowa State Bar Association, and the Iowa Association for Justice.
